Thenkuzhal murukku
The star shaped metal
achu gives us crispy murukku, amma makes variety of murukku for pappa to
distribute it in his office and for us too.
Ingredients
Rice flour – 2 cups
Urad dal flour – ½ cup
Coconut oil – 2 tbsp
Sesame seeds – 2 tsp
Salt – to taste
Water – as required
Oil – for frying
Method:
Soak rice for 2
hours, wash it and dry it well in the sun. Finely powder it. Fry urad dal till
you get a nice aroma (slight brown) and powder it. I used to powder it
separately and then mix both. Add sesame seeds, salt with a little of water.
Consistency should be same as for idiyappam/string hopper. Make murukku with
the murukku machine using the plate with 3 star shaped holes.
Heat oil and gently
squeeze out murukku into the oil. Fry murukku both the sides till golden
brown. Serve with hot teas in this rainy season
Note: to check if the
oil is hot, just drop a small piece of murukku dough in the oil, if it raises
to the surface immediately, then you start squeezing. Better to squeeze on
greased banana or cheelanthi leaf.
