Wheat
sooji Uppuma
Very rarely we prefer
wheat sooji at home but it’s healthy tiffin especially for those above 40’s.
Ingredients:
Broken wheat / sooji – 1 cup, slightly fried
Onion – 1 medium size, cleaned and chopped
Carrot – 1 medium size, finely chopped
Cabbage – chopped 1 cup
Green chilli – 1 medium size, chopped
Tomato – 1 small size, chopped
Coriander leaves – 1 sprig
Salt to taste
To
temper:
Oil – 2 tbsp
Urad dal – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Method:
Heat oil in a
pan/cheenachutty – add items listed under ‘to temper’ in the given order and allow to
splutter. Add onion sauté until it turns light brown, sprinkle salt on onion to
get fried soon. Now add the veggies and sauté for few minutes then add 2-3 cups
of water with salt and bring it to boil till it gets cooked. Add the broken
wheat to the water, cook on medium heat for few minutes till the water gets absorbed. Garnish with
coriander leaves to get a nice aroma. Serve hot with sambar /rasam / chutney.
Note: I use cabbage
instead of beans for my kid to identify and pick chillies out from uppuma.
