Kara Chutney

Kara Chutney
A usual side dish for dosa/idili, nevertheless most of the days MIL run for last minute side dish coconut chutney to manage all plates, no matter the quantity acha and mon empties my chutney pot. Here goes my Kara chutney without tomatoes. 


Ingredients:
Onion – 5, chopped
Dry Red chillies – 3-4 nos
Garlic – 3 nos
Soaked tamarind – small gooseberry size
Salt – for taste
Oil – to sauté


To temper:
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – a sprig
Coconut oil – 1 tbsp

Method:

Sauté chopped onion with chillies and garlic in a greased sauce pan on low heat. Sprinkle salt on top. 
When the onion goes transparent remove from flame to get cooled down. Grind the mixture into a fine paste by adding required water. Add tamarind juice and salt as per your taste. Temper the grinded mixture with mustard and curry leaves in a tsp of coconut oil. Tasty kara chutney is ready for your soft idilis. Enjoy!
