Raw Banana Thoran/Pacha vazhaka Thoran /Kaya Thoran/Vazhakai Poriyal

Raw Banana Thoran/Pacha vazhaka Thoran /Kaya Thoran/Vazhakai Poriyal
A common recipe for regular plantain cultivators. Obviously seasonal disasters are managed in recipe form and there goes mezhukupuratti, erisseri, aviyal, theeyal, puzhukku, kurukku kaalan, podimas etc... opportunely had a great jump from these frequent recipes to my martial roof  L but there goes the same list. J

Ingredients:
Raw banana – 2-3 nos
Salt – as required
Water – to cook

To grind:
Coconut grated – 1 cup
Garlic- 2 cloves
Cumin seeds/jeera – 1 tsp
Chilli powder – ½ tsp
Turmeric powder – a pinch

To temper:
Coconut oil – as required
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – a sprig
Red chilli – 1, halved into two

Method:
Peel the skin of raw bananas and chop in dice shape. Dip in water for few minutes.  Grind the items listed under ‘to grind’ in a mixer and keep aside.

Heat oil in a kadai on medium flame – sauté items listed under ‘to temper’ in the order given. Once the mustard splutters – add chopped banana to the ground mixture. Add salt with water and allow to cook for a few minutes on medium flame. Use the handle of the ladle while drying it or it will turn mushy. Serve hot with rice.

Note:
·        Use less water to cook or it will turn mushy.
·    Instead of chopping to cubes you can scrap using a scrapper after steaming the peeled bananas.
