Dal with Aloo Masala

Dal with Aloo Masala
Dal or parippu a protein rich source for vegetarians is a balanced diet. Often mom includes dal in one way or the other to our daily meal and I used to get livid with this pulse. But after watching the daily recipe of our Srilankan guys I realized we had just nothing in our daily meal. Now I have increased the intake due a vegetarian at home who is obsessed after pulses.

Ingredients:
Dal – ½ cup
Potato – 2 nos, chopped (dice shape)
Carrot – 1 small size, chopped (dice shape) (optional)
Shallots – 4-5 nos
Garlic – 3-4 nos
Ginger – 1 tbsp
Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
Garam masala powder – 1 tbsp
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – a pinch
Curry leaves – a sprig
Coconut oil – as required
Salt – for taste

Method:
Heat oil in a pressure cooker – sprinkle curry leaves - fry garlic and ginger till it turns brown. Add chopped shallots – fry it until it turns golden color. Now reduce the flame - add coriander powder, garam masala turmeric powder and salt to the fried stuff – gently mix with a spatula. Add potato and carrot with water (required level) and pressure cook for 2 whistles. Allow cooker to cool and serve with chapatti and rotis.

For kids - If necessary add tomato paste/ tomato sauce. Add chilli powder only if garam masala is made without chilli.
