Therali Appam

Therali Appam
A common snack in temples with rich yummy flavors of bay leaves and cardamom powered the tradition of village people. Its festive season and people are around spending whole day for preparing pongala and therali appam in temple ground. My overseas life longed me therali a lot since I couldn’t get bay leaves in Maldives. Yesterday my MIL got some bay leaves and we thought of making therali. I am presenting here for you friends, try it.

Ingredients:
Raw rice flour – 2 cups, roasted
Jaggery – melted 1 cup
Ghee – 1 tbsp
Cardamom powder – 2 tsp
Coconut grated – ¼ cup

Method:
Add the melted jaggery into the rice flour and the rest of the ingredients – mix together. Check the consistency of dough – it should be dry, no need to add water. Clean the bay leaves and tooth picks or erkil – the stick of coconut leaf. Fill the mix in the bay leaves and roll it to form a cylinder shape – fix the erkil at the end and steam for 20 – 30 minutes.

Therali appam is ready to serve.

Note: Rice flour must be coarse powdered like you do for puttu powder.
