Onion Pakoda

Onion Pakoda
Onion Pakoda - a popular tea time snack with few ingredients. Most of the recipes follow gram flour but my foodie has no objection for variety with all-purpose flour and wheat flour.  My 2 villains emptied the plates and I fought for my share as usual. Here goes my trial…

Ingredients:
Onion – 4, sliced lengthwise
Maida/all-purpose flour – ½ cup
Wheat powder – ¼ cup
Chilli powder – 1 tbsp
Asafoetida – a pinch
Salt – for taste
Water – required to mix
Oil – for frying

Method:
Peel the outer skin of onion – wash and slice thinly lengthwise. Mix onion, maida, wheat, chilli powder, asafoetida, salt and water. Maintain the consistency of water. Heat oil in a kadai – to ensure the heat of oil drop a little batter into the oil, if the batter raises immediately to surface – then oil is ready for frying.

Preserve the hotness, take a spoonful and drop it into the oil – fry until golden brown. Toss with the ladle to stir the pakoda. Remove it from the oil and drain excess oil. Serve pakoda with black tea.
